Picked The Best of Weddings 2007

theknot.jpgThe Knot released their The Best of Weddings picks for 2007 and I am proud to announce that Document Event Videography made the list for the Southwest region.

The Knot chose 5 wedding videographers from Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, the whole Southwest (!) and my company is one of them.  Thank you for all those brides who voted for me!

Hire a Coordinator

gse_multipart47079.jpgHiring a professional wedding coordinator is essential when planning your perfect wedding. The two I recommend are Tracey from Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge and Christy from CLM Weddings.

These pros will arrange everything for you whether it’s a private consultation with a prospective wedding videographer or your entire wedding day outline. They are in touch with the best wedding vendors Las Vegas has to offer.

If you are getting married in a hotel chapel, the wedding coordinator they give you may be working with one hundred other brides at the same time. The biggest difference between Tracey and Christy and a hotel coordinator is that Tracey and Christy will think about your wedding day even when they’re not on the clock.

Designing Your Wedding

The Importance of a Great DJ

Besides your videographer, the DJ you hire is one of the most important vendors. What type of DJ do you want for your reception? Would you like your DJ to start the party, or just play background music? Your answers to these questions will help shape the “personality” of your wedding day.

I like a nice cross between the “party-starter” DJ and the “background music” DJ. The DJ at the wedding I filmed last night was just that. He had great microphone presence, wasn’t chatty with the guests, and had some great party-starting ideas.

He did something I’ve never seen before whereby he separated the men and the women onto two sides. Along with the aid of a lyrics cheat sheet, the two sides sang ‘Summer Nights’ to each other. The video I shot of this was high-energy and hilarious!

Hire a great DJ, have a great reception.

Your Photomontage

When you decide to upgrade your package to include a photomontage (a 6-9 minute photo slideshow presented at your reception), choose your photos wisely. There are two guidlines I tell my “soon-to-be-weds” when choosing photographs. First, the best photos to use are those that include not only you and your fiance, but also the friends and family members who will be present at your event.

Second, you MUST include your funny baby pictures. I’ve been showing photomontages at receptions for years and I can attest that the cute (and embarassing) baby photos get the biggest response.

Give me a call at (702) 363-9031 to set up your wedding consultation. I’ll help you create a memorable photomontage!
